The place was wonderful it was actually like I was in a real coal mine the guide-Robert was very polite and he knew that we don't speak Dutch but he tried his best to explain us the tour in English and the cashier was nice and helpful too
An educational tour of what coal mines were like in the Netherlands. Keep in mind that this is not a real mine, this is just a replica of what it used to look like. First you will watch a short movie about the history and then a guide will show you around and explain things.
Took almost 45 minutes longer then the time that was mentioned. We had a tour of about 2 hours, it was just too long. The group was too big, some would always stand in the back and couldnt see.
Story the guide told wasnt really the best. We didnt get the point of most of what he was saying. He made a bunch of inappropriate jokes eventhough there were also children there.
A bunch of the group left after half an hour and the other half of the group wished they did.
Great way to learn about how life was working in the mines. We got the impression the guides are volunteers, but still the entrance fee is quite high + 5€ parking fee.
Possible to buy combiticket for Mergelrijk
Beautiful piece of Limburg history.
very nicely depicted, certainly fun and educational for the children, all the machines and materials that are there really come from the mining period, they also show how certain things were done in the past and are told by an employee from that time
There is a guided tour every hour

The tour guide is knowledgeable and humorous, makes the tour a great experience.
On a somewhat drizzly day I took advantage of the opportunity to dive into the mines. Poorly prepared, we thought we could walk around ourselves and be outside again after 30 minutes (we got there at 12:45 and hadn't eaten yet). That turned …
It was a very nice experience to see all the machines and to see and hear some of them in operation. The guide knows how to talk about everything well and vividly, so you can easily imagine what it was like in the mines in the past. …
Had a very nice tour, you get to see how people used to work in the mines. The guide was also very nice and tells his story clearly. Definitely recommended to take a tour of Steenkolenmijn Valkenburg.
Gives a very good picture of the work in the mines, a passionate former miner tells the story of the real miner in scents and colors.
